It's Not Supposed to Happen that Way

M. Stanley Bubien

How'd I break my leg? It's a strange story, one I don't quite get myself.

I was riding my bike and stopped at my usual spot to take a break and pray---yes, I do actually pray sometimes! And I really felt connected this morning---like God was letting me in on everything, and I totally understood. Awesome!

When I finished praying, I locked my cleats into the pedals to ride away. That's when my front wheel snagged a rock. I went down sideways---I swear they heard me yell a mile away---and the bike crunched my leg, breaking it clean in two.

That's it. I was praying, and one second later I broke my leg. I mean, it's not supposed to happen that way!

Is it?
