He smiled. "I'm a friend from his high school days. He doing alright?"
One thought came: How do you tell someone your son's living a hollow, empty existence? Sure, he's financially successful, but he struggles through each day not knowing where he's going, not caring where he's been.
"Yeah," I sighed. "He's alright."
